Today seems like the real beginning of the school holidays, at least to me.
Since Korkor stopped going to school 2 days before the last day of school, we were running around running errands and preparing our HK trip. Didi and Meimei were still attending their preschool, as they (the school) had demanded we pay for November fees as well. So, they had no choice but to arrange some holiday plans for the children to avoid being visited by our machais.
Now that HK trip was over, November also over, today's the start of the month for these home-bound children with me. So what did we do?
I had slept in till 9+, so lazy to start working on the chores. It feels great, no? When everyone else is dragging themselves up from bed to work on a maniac Monday?
And the kids now do not drag me up from bed to prepare their milkmilk or breakfast. What they do first thing in the morning is pee (optional, depending how urgent it is), and switch on tv, lie on the sofa and watch their favorite channel. Until I come barking orders at them, they would stay there until don't-know-when. One fine day, I'll experiment with that.
After washing up, and berkumpul-kumpul in the kitchen to make our breakfast of milkmilk and bread slices, I sat down with korkor to write a schedule on 2 of the subjects each day for tutoring, by me. Meanwhile, didi was ordered to clean up the study room where he had messed up the day before. His "I'm-SO-sorry" eyes didn't help him let off the hook.
And meimei helped with the laundry, down came the dry ones and up with the wet ones from the washing machine. It is sure good to have some helpers around now. I even had didi to help mop the kitchen floor after dinner, as a punishment to him for messing around with his food. It's rather cute and dandy watching him on all fours with a wet cloth, wipe wipe here, wipe wipe there.. he doesn't want to be associated with that task for the 3rd time, but it's a good lesson for him until he learnt to eat nicely, isn't it?
Later, all 3 worked on workbooks and coloring exercises while I get lunch cooked. It was better than I anticipated. After lunch, they continued with what they were doing while I surfed a bit on internet, sweep and mop the floor, get dinner fixed while answering their questions here and there. I thought it's better to keep them occupied and skip the afternoon nap so they could hit the sack earlier at night to let me have some me-time.
And they are on the floor playing toys together and watching their tv again. Not bad, rather than having the tv on all day or korkor at his computer games all the time, huh? I'm rather pleased with how well we are getting along with each other, though I am asked if I am feeling bored with this kind of life. Sounds rather bored to some but life like this, simple yet so sweet. Guess they won't understand.
