Last week, meimei gave me a scare with her very painful right leg to even move an inch. It started quite suddenly without any previous known "accidents" like falling over or being beaten. (I swear I didn't cane her!)
It started after an afternoon nap when she came out limping on her right foot. I thought it was just numbed from a yoga-pose sleeping style, and hence didn't take much concern of that. By evening, she was almost crying for the pain of her entire leg and she couldn't walk. I was really worried as this definitely wasn't part of my past 9 years experience in motherhood.
I called a doctor friend (thanks to your sis, JM), and over the phone, she asked me several questions like "Did she have a fall recently?", "Any redness","Any swell?", "Any itch?", "Fever?" to which all the answers were only "NO". She then assured me that's it's most likely a muscle cramp and that kids would have it some of the time.
I then told her to sleep and prayed that the next day, it will be all over. That night, she did cry in her sleep, I suppose it was still painful whenever she moved.
The next day, things weren't looking good yet and she would have to skip school. I took her to see her paed and the paed looked confused too. At least, she did some simple tests to ensure her reflex system on her leg is still functioning. I asked if it's necessary to do any x-ray at this moment, she said I can wait for awhile. Since she wasn't feverish and everything else looked perfectly normal, there shouldn't be any infections. So, it was still the same diagnosis of a muscle cramp.
I was still worried sick as she would cry in pain when the car went over a bump or when I try to carry her from one position to another. She almost seemed like totally paralysed to me. I can't help to keep checking that she can still feel her legs, telling her to move her toes for me to see.
Whole day, I had to carry her everywhere, and most of the time I would just leave her on the sofa to watch TV. Apart from that, she looks perfectly fine and could laugh and joke with us.
Seeing her unwell, it's comforting to see how didi tried to help. At one time, he tried carrying her or giving her a support. Seeing it didn't work, he went to push the legrest to her and told her to sit on it while he would push it with her on it to where she wants to go. He also suggested maybe I could use some ice to give her a leg rub. It's so heartwarming to see he's so caring even though they might be fighting and arguing everyday.
I almost wanted to jump the gun and took her to the hospital to see the specialist. In the end, I alerted almost the entire world, as one call to papa's aunt did it. We bought our medical insurance from her and so I seek her opinion as to which hospital we are entitled to, JUST IN CASE. She told my mil, and the news just spread like wildfire. My mil was worried, naturally, and she talked to anyone she met, I think, and kept calling me to say who and who had the same experience and that I should take her to get a blood test etc.
Fortunately, this scare lasted not more than 1 and half full days and by the next day, she seemed to get better and better. It's just a muscle cramp after all. And how it happened, I think this would be in the X-files. For her, I think she would miss the hot bath spa twice daily.

The other day, my younger boy also got cramp... suddenly.
I usually use guasa - bull horn and scrape or put hot-water bag. Eventually becomes better. After a day.
