CNY traffic news

One of the favorite topic during CNY gatherings is how long our journey balik kampung takes. Funny why but it does seem like we would be half complaining and half basking in the glory of being the winner who took the most absurd longest journey home compared to the usual.

I myself had experienced a slow crawl almost all the way from KL to Ipoh, something like 10-40km/hour most of the time. It was really damn frustrating on the road, what with you were paying toll to use the highway some more!

But we learned from our mistakes and PLUS highway made some expansions to some stretches as well. Patrick from Spore once chose to drove in the midnight to avoid the crowd and we had made careful considerations too when to embark on the journey home like consulting the bomoh

This year, my banker calculated accurately, using the thumb to count his other fingers, that it would be the best timing of all.. Friday, 22nd after 1pm.

So, there we were, plan all lined up. Kids came home, pom pom, I take a nap while they linger around, told banker to ta-pau lunch home (as hell, no! I'm not going to cook and wash anymore), and only started packing after all that's done. Meanwhile, have to check the fridge, no easy perishable items, ah.. still got half the watermelon in that. Well, what to do, make watermelon juice.

Then have to ensure the dirty laundry washed and hang, son's homework is cleared, all items needed for CNY packed and ... gosh! so much work to do geh?

By the time we, or rather, I was done, I was half dead and the luggage seem to tell any passerby that we are moving house. It's such a big mission to go home for CNY, man.

And we were on the road at 5.30pm finally. Dang! It was the first time the Q at Jalan Duta toll plaza stretches that long. I tried to influence banker to U-turn and go home another day, but he was adamant. It was lucky it didn't turn out to be so bad on the highway. We finally made it home at about 8.30pm. Very hungry and quickly gobbled up the dinner prepared by my mil. Now, time to hit the sack.
