Of warehouse sale and playdoh!

Last week, I was very thrilled to see the warehouse sale ad on the papers from a major bookstore. I had just had a casual chat with Goolypop online and we were excitedly talking about the kind of books we read and the Calvin & Hobbes collection which we both heart so much. The books are not cheap either, I own only 1 of it, and the whole collection can come to a massive hole in the pocket. She was saying unless the warehouse sale is here, that would be quite a handsome savings in there.

And magically, I just don't quite believe it, whatever we talked about, somehow something would happen. Just like the other time we were talking about musicals and very soon, I saw the "Mamma Mia" coming to our homeland end of the year. Is God eavesdropping on what we were talking about? Sei-foh, better not gossip so much on others.

Anyway, other than C&H, I wanted to get my hands on my favorite author, Jeffrey Archer's new books and some self-learning books for some time. So, a hopeful me pulled myself up from the comfy home, braved the hot blazing heat, to find some indulgement of reading delights soon.

I found the place very soon, but dammit, the area was fully jammed with cars. Think there would be a covered carpark like MVM? Forget it. How I wish I have a driver who can just let me off at the entrance and I do not have to worry about the car. Then again, if I can afford a driver, I won't be hopping to a warehouse sale in the first place to save some bucks, right anot?

In the end, I had to park my car quite some distance away. I was so happy to find one, even though it's like 500m away. Then something happened which made my heart almost thumped out. When I turned my car in, suddenly the left wheel dropped into what seemed like a big longkang hole and I was so darn scared I can't reverse my car out from it. So mega fortunate I could and all was well again. How could I have missed that earlier? Guess I was too eager.

So, with all the near misfortune and the long walk under the hot sun, I was hoping the sale won't let me down. Behold, it was really quite a tonnes of books in there. One can really spend the whole 6 days sale in there, and still haven't seen all the books on sale. I went 1 round to browse the whole place first, and only much later focus on the books I would want to have.

Unfortunately, the novels by Archer on sale were all the old ones which I already have in my possession. Then not many selfhelp books I wanted were there, only by the local authors were on sale. And C&H? No such luck. Instead, the whole collection of Tintin series were available. It was humid and warm inside the warehouse, and I wasn't feeling very comfortable either with the weird tummy in me. So, in the end, I bought 2 books, one was "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" and another children's books equipped with some plasticine for play, quickly went home to have some rest.

What a disappointed me!

There was a reason why I got hold of the clay though. The other time while we were in Spore, my brother had given little A a gift and it was a display for underwater world with some playdoh and instructions to make little stuffs of the deep sea. He was looking forward to open it up and play with it, but I had told him to hang on for the longest time, telling him to wait until school holidays first. Why school holidays? That's because mom (that's me, duh!) is lazy and wants to procrastinate.

One day, he opened it up without my permission and when I came home, I saw all the clays were all mixed up, the whole table was messed up and the floor was full with tiny bits of the clay everywhere. Naturally, I went berserk, and proceeded to throw all the clays away, making him crying and wailing like "sei lou moe", oh, he always softened my heart with his pathetic look of his doggy eyes and face everytime. But I was adamant, though I told myself I would make up for him by getting him a new set soon. I surely wouldn't want him to remember the evil looking face I was when I threw all that he loved away that moment, would I? Mommy is surely "moe leong sum", I know.

So, everything is well again when he saw the new clays that day, and again he pestered me every freaking day to play with it. Over the weekend, I gave in, and we had a good one hour of playtime making fish, cake, snail and caterpillar. I hope they only remember the best memories of childhood I'm trying to give to them instead of the bad, mean witch that I am when I need to show them who's the boss around the house.

I thot BKK has many fairs too? Heard book fair was held just recently, no? Anyway, this warehouse sale I'd been to wasn't very good la, it seemed to me like those books are the "cold" and old stocks and it's not mega cheap either, considering the heat and the warmth of the environment there.

I find most warehouse sales here are just an effort to get rid of their old and out-of-date stuff, so usually i dont bother to go fight with the crowds & heat. Oh, i'm a fan of J.Archer too - hv most of his books except the latest one, bawahaha!

goolypop, about our conversations, I think He loves to hear gossips too, instead of delivering our wants la.. (very stressing for him wei..) :D

cy, I think that Prison Diary belongs to me, eh? If I have not mistaken, you have borrowed from me a number of books hoh?

Raynebow, I agree with you. Learnt my lesson now, don't bother to go to warehouse sale (and acting lansi while at that too) from now on. I have all the collection of Archer's except the last 8 years, I think. Didn't read as much as I did before I involve more on internet (wah.. like big business, actually no, just emailing gossips and chatting online!)
