The last I was there was in the year 1994, and it holds many special memories for me especially for
1. the Board of Librarians trip in Form 6, it was like staying in Tanjung Rambutan! Happy and stress-free.
2. falling in love with my now hubby, we jungle trek in a group of 19 for 2 days/1 night from Gopeng to the hilltop, spending a night in the dark jungles in an Orang Asli stilts home. Yeah, that was how it happened.

I was among the 6 "babes" in the group, and the only one without a torchlight. He promised me I would be alright before, but wasn't even aware I fell and cut a bruise on my knee. Feeling terribly guilty, he stayed at my front all the time and helped me to get through the various streams and unbelievable slopes.

As it became pitch darkness, though dark and damn tired and damn hungry, I felt safe and peace with his hand firmly holding mine. I suppose he too was "electrocuted" by me. Too dark mah, so I became his light of his life loh.. :D (Your bulu roma stand up mei?)
Yes, that was the beginning of our love story, everything else is history.

Well, apart from that, it might also teach the young to fight for their lives for opportunities! Good, huh? But must also tell them not to be too greedy and selfish, have to save the best for their loved ones.

Red rose which would make my knees weak...

We made a U-turn and headed for home after about half a day there, with the journey lasted only about 1 hour with the new access road from Simpang Pulai. It wasn't as winding as the old route and I didn't throw up or felt nauseous, which is certainly good. It was unfortunate we can't see the Lata Tinggi waterfalls though, as that is in the path of the old route.
Will be back to take the children to see the tea plantations.

Hi Gargies, sorry to mentioned that 19 episodes story to you, kept you awake, ha ha, but your mention of this place brought back memories of Irene to me. It was emotional for me to bring out that story.
Your mentioned of the leeches, I did one post last year but deleted the whole blog due technical reasons...we too went camping in the jungle, went in from near Kajang, deep into the interior as an uncle was looking for wild orchids. Big group of us, me the youngest male, and 5 girls, my pretty cousin and her school friends...and we had to wade thru a putrid, smelly swamp...and Holy Smoke, when we camped that evening, the girls went to wash in the stream, their screams frightened all of us, my uncle grabbing his shotgun, an off duty police officer his revolver, another fellow too his gun...all thinking a tiger or python had attacked the girls...instead all of them covered with pachats, whole body...
and all crying and screaming, baju, jeans all full of blood, inside too...and all geli to do anything.
So being the youngest male, my uncle asked me to volunteer (no need to ask, ha ha)...to get the leeches off.
So using cheap cigarettes, I burned them off, and all the girls turn by turn behind a big rock took off their blouses, even jeans, ahemmm...and all modesty and virtues forgotten, let me, pleaded me to get rid of them...5 girls stripping in turns...and sure enough, leeches sure know where to have their dinner.
But I can tell you, none of the girls will go near a jungle let alone near trees anymore, ha ha. But I sure ha ha, took my time getting the fat leeches off.
That rose you holding is beautiful....
You stay easy and keep well, best regards, Lee.
Haha.. you are such a lucky man! Those 5 girls didn't demand that you marry them? haha..
Don't apologize for my addiction to love stories till 3am. This is one bad habit I need to kick away, novels last time kept me awake too, though I knew the next day would be a long day, I didn't care and told myself to tackle that later, come what may.
Thanks for the drop by.
Regards.
Hi Gargies, I suddenly remembered I forgot to thank you for that lovely shot of Foster's Smoke house Inn.
Thank you for the memories.
And it is a compliment to me, you completed all 19 episodes of Irene's story. Can't believe you did all in one night.
It took me weeks to decode everything from my old, faded diaries before putting in the postings.
When I look at your photograph, I think back to that fateful night we walked in the mist. Once again, thanks for the memories.
Re those 5 girls, they would tease me all the next years as I had, ahemm,' seen them', *wink*...but, hey, thats what a gentleman has to do, right? Ha ha. Helping girls in distress.
You keep well and have a nice day, Gargies, Lee.
Those leeches sound aaargh! But you and your husband found each other... awww, what can be sweeter than that? =).
Glad you and your family managed to make a trip back there... altogether now! Enjoy your tea plantation visit next, and do tell us about it!
Last time I was there was in 1968!!! Maybe time to make trip back.
Ahh.. the wonderful memories that Cameron evokes! Thanks for triggering my brain cells.. :D
oh..any form of creatures that seem without backbone will scare the hell out of me, especially leeches, that suck blood. I had avoided this bloody experiece my whole life, see what kind of city girl I am, haha..
